Hazelwood East Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)

Unnamed (22)

Voyager Renewables is developing a 500MW / 4-hour Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) on Tramway Road, Hazelwood North. Our project sits within the Gippsland Renewable Energy Zone.

The system will store electricity when demand is low and deliver it back to the grid when demand is high, powering hundreds of thousands of homes for four hours.

Project benefits

  • Reliable energy supply during peak demand.  ·
  • Integration of renewables by storing excess solar and wind power.  ·
  • Local opportunities through jobs and supplier engagement during construction.
  • Regional legacy: continues Hazelwood North’s role in powering Victoria.

Next steps

The project is in early development. We will soon be completing technical studies and engaging with regulators, in parallel with continuing our conversations with the community. Updates will be shared here as the project progresses.
